Life Circle of Silk Moth

1. After mating the female of the Silk Moth lays her eggs. The eggs develop and change colour through blue to grey.

2. The mature eggs hatch out into caterpillars, which are also known as ‘silkworms’.

3. to 7. Silkworms eat the leaves of the White Mulberry continuously. In one month as a caterpillar they shed their skin four times and increase their body weight 10,000 times.

8. When they are 23 to 38 days old each silk worm begins to spin a cocoon between two sticks.
9. Each silkworm looses over half its body weight whilst spinning and completing its cocoon.
